Recently, the Elders and Land Team recommended that Immanuel pursue purchasing a property in Hardin Valley. Sunday afternoon we held an online information meeting and were excited that so many were able to join, even on short notice. For those who could not make it, here is a recap of the vision, the opportunity, and the next steps.
Land Meeting Recap
We are thankful for all that has been accomplished during Immanuel’s first four years. By God’s grace, we’ve established a local church. We have established membership, appointed leaders, adopted church documents, partnered with missionaries, and more. And by God’s grace, we have ministered to members and the community, to individuals and families, to children and adults, all while navigating the logistical challenges of being a mobile church.
While we are thankful for all that God has done, we believe there is much more He wants to do through Immanuel Church to minister to our community and to make disciples. We believe that a more permanent location would help us on this mission. The elders are united in the conviction that while property and buildings are not necessities, a campus could help us to better minister to our church and community. We are especially excited about how a church facility could help us better minister to upcoming generations, children, students, young families. We believe the Lord may be leading us to such an opportunity.
The opportunity before us is 0 Valley Vista Road. We believe this particular property could be an especially great fit for Immanuel for several reasons.
- The location is great! Sitting just off Hardin Valley Road and Pellissippi Parkway, Valley Vista is central to our current attenders, located in the ever-growing Hardin Valley community, and is easily accessed by many of the surrounding communities.
- The visibility is great! The property is not only accessible from Pellissippi, but visible from the Parkway as well. That means that the thousands of people who pass by will know there is a church in the community.
- The price is great! While the property has been listed in the past for as much as $1.5M, the owner has accepted our offer of $1.1M. As our Land Team can attest, this is a very good price for the Hardin Valley area.
Currently, Immanuel Church has the Valley Vista property under contract. This means that the owner has taken the property off the market, giving us 90 days to evaluate the property. The due diligence steps include engineering studies and surveys, zoning reviews, traffic studies, and more. We are thankful to be working with a trusted commercial realtor who is helping to guide us through this process. If this period of evaluation goes well, the proposal to purchase the land with cash (while retaining 3 months of operating expenses) would be brought before the church for a vote.
So what can we do in the meantime?
First, we must pray. We are calling Immanuel Church to a season of prayer, seeking the Lord’s wisdom and asking for his will to be done. Would you commit to praying that the Spirit would guide us through this process? Our confession must be that apart from him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
Next, be informed. Ask questions of elders or land team members. Visit the property. Look for updates. Make plans to attend our next Family Meeting (TBA) for further discussion and prayer.
Lastly, give. Our goal is to raise $225k over the next couple months. This will enable the cash purchase, as well as the 3 month reserve. We encourage you to prayerfully consider contributing to the “Future Foundations” fund [Link]. With the Lord’s help, our generous giving today can provide Gospel opportunities for generations to come.
Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel. We are so grateful for the body of Christ at Immanuel Church and are excited to see what the Lord might do by his grace and our faithfulness. May his will be done and Jesus Christ be glorified in everything.
Grace and peace to you,
